Children's Literacy: Learning through Play

The Initiative Foundation in Emergencies enhances children's literacy by integrating play into education in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Children build vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence through storytelling, role-playing, and creative games, while teachers receive mentorship to integrate play into their lessons. Community reading circles and play-based clubs extend learning outside the classroom to foster inclusion and resilience. Linking literacy to creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving enables IFE to ensure children thrive academically and socially. This holistic approach transforms overcrowded classrooms into supportive learning environments, giving children the skills, joy, and resilience to pursue an education and ultimately create brighter, more inclusive futures.

These initiatives not only create jobs and strengthen household income but also foster resilience, independence, and solidarity among women. By diversifying their efforts, the women are building economic stability while inspiring others to pursue entrepreneurship and community development.

IFE’s Youth empowerment

The Initiative Foundation in Emergencies (IFE) has empowered youth by offering information sessions on accessing quality education through available scholarships and meaningful job opportunities that strengthen their futures. Through inclusive learning programs in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana, IFE has supported access to quality education while mentoring teachers to create supportive environments. Beyond classrooms, IFE has connected young people to scholarship opportunities that enable them to pursue higher learning and professional growth. At the same time, the Organization has facilitated training and partnerships that link youth to employment prospects, ensuring they can translate their skills into livelihoods. Leadership workshops and conservation initiatives have further nurtured confidence, advocacy, and responsibility, preparing youth to take active roles in their communities. By fostering mentorship, building networks with NGOs and institutions, and amplifying youth voices, IFE has transformed young people from passive recipients of aid into leaders equipped with education, opportunities, and resilience to shape inclusive futures.
